2005 Toyota Matrix

With its freshened style and features, 2005 Toyota Matrix comes in Standard, XR, and XRS versions. Standard and XR versions offer 123hp in AWD and 130 in 2WD form with 5-speed manual transmission or optional automatic. The sporty XRS comes only in 2WD with 170 hp with 6-speed manual transmission limiting it for road-use only. Wheels are 16 inches, with 17inches available for XRS and 2WD XR.

Interior features are made up of quality and sturdy materials that create a modern and youthful finish. Gauges are a bit small and set deep in dashboard with their bright trim rings reflecting in windshield. Optional antiskid system, front bumper and grille and clear-tens tail lamps are the improved features. Also included are new safety features such as head-protecting curtain and front torso side airbags.

Ride quality varies with models and equipment. Matrix has responsive steering and smooth turns but is more prone to crosswinds at highway speeds than lower-built small cars. Models with ABS have good stopping performance. Engines however are noisy especially on brisk acceleration and highway cruising.
